I think that the most meaningful part of this project was getting to see how Richard thinks and why he makes the decisions that he does. I've known Richard since highschool and i’ve always known that he was bright in class but after this interview I can definitely see that he is very knowledgeable in all sorts of topics. Richard also gave a lot of good facts and details on how he created his company, and why he did. He also explained to me the difficulties that he comes across in the industry, and some solutions that he has thought about to fix and overcome. Richard hasn't had someone to guide him in his ventures or hold his had every step of the way, so he has had to learn by doing. I really like what richard said “Your place may not always be as business owner, but that does not mean you cannot be a critical piece to someone else’s team.” Not to be mean or anything but I truly believe that some people are just not meant to be an owner of their establishment, but that does not mean they would be invaluable to someone else's team and venture. Talking to Richard has been really inspiring and eye opening to what it's like to open and run your own company. I can see how much hard work it is to operate a business, and to continuously keep up with all of the trends especially being the only employee of the company. I also can see how satisfying it is to run your own business. Ever single project that you take on is kind of like your own child. You are able to create something, develop and produce and eventually provide to the mass for them to hopefully enjoy. |

This project showed the importance of many of the topics from the book that we learned, and showed that real life entrepreneurs are using the same techniques and trying to solve the problems and using goal setting just as the book instructs as necessary for success. Josh talked about understanding a problem, creating ideas, and knowing your market. Although he did not get into details about business plans, or pitch decks, or the nitty-gritty you can see how the same concepts are at play in his career. He has goals for himself and tries to reach them thru plans. That is what I thought was important, because if you try to start a business without thinking about the degree of success you can obtain via that business, then you are setting yourself up for failure. If you want to be successful, of course you have to fail as well, which is why I think taking a lot of shots at success is important. Like Mr. Hecocks stated, you have to constantly be hungry, and seeking knowledge and resources rather from mentors, books, or modern technology. When one utilizes all these resources then they can ultimately obtain success. |

This woman out of necessity has built a business that has allowed her to accomplish one of her dreams, which was to travel. She has traveled to Florida, Puerto Rico and Hawaii, something that she never imagined herself doing. Having a support system is important when deciding to build a business. Having someone that will be there for you even when you don’t believe in yourself is very important. Someone to get home to and just be able to relax and destress. Working In a team is hard especially when you depend on its members. So being able to encourage them, even when I am feeling down is a constant struggle. Being able to manage personal life and work life is a struggle. Some days, as she explained, personal life will try to pull you down but you have to remember that there is a whole team that I counting on you. This interview allowed me to realize that sometimes life won’t happen as we imagine and we just have to take advantage of what life has to offer. We have to believe in our self’s, something that I personally struggle with. I didn’t know this but this interview made me realize that I have the power to influence other people. Everything we do, how we act and respond to situations, someone else is watching and may decide to make a change based in our actions. Learning about yourself is very important. Learning how to communicate with different people, because not everyone is the same. You have to be able to manage not only your emotions but be able to react to a constant changing environment. |

The most meaningful thing about this project for me is that it got me excited to go into the business world after I graduate. Even though are I am pursing to be an entrepreneur, the way Bernard was explaining his business to me got me really excited to work for an entrepreneur one day. This interview assignment was a great learning experience. I learned a few things during the interview. Sometimes, you are going to have to fall on your face in order to be successful. Not everything is going to be the way you planned it and it is okay if you fail. |

I found this project very interesting because I have plans on opening my own business of it being a gym or a restaurant. Although I feel I would feel more passionate about opening up a gym I feel that it is very expensive to start especially with all the costs of the equipment. Oscar Ramos mentioned to me that in any business you must be willing to spend a good chunk of money in the initial process. Investment is a huge part of being a business owner, without investing your money back into your business you cannot be expecting high profit in the future. I learned a lot of how the daily business functions work and feel that through this project I have gained a lifelong mentor who can guide me through the process. Before the interview my opinion of opening up a gym has changed completely in the fact that many gym owners do not succeed. I feel that in any business being self-aware is an important quality to have for any business owner. Being self-aware of what you’re good at in owning a business is important because you understand that you might need to bring other colleagues so that everyone can have the work separated. Ramos mentioned that he made the mistake of trying to do everything on his own at first. In creating something that has many aspects to it, you must involve one or two other people to help out in other sections of the business whether it be the training, finances, or even advertisements. I find that opening a business takes more than just having a mentor, you really need to have the passion to create it. That is the kind of attitude I got from Mr. Ramos, even though he has a month where he is not getting much clients he finds new ways to be innovated to attract more customers. Becoming a business owner has a lot of pros and cons but the fact that you set your own schedule and changing the live of other people is really special. When I feel the time is right and save enough money, I soon will become an owner of my own CrossFit affiliate gym. |

The project helped me gain some insights that I really did think about. Interviewing a successful business owner helped me understand just a little bit more of how hard it really is to run a company. I know it is possible and I can do anything I put my mind to. Not only do I have to gain customers, but I need to gain employees that believe in what I am doing. This company has been in service for over 30 years and seen it fair share of ups and downs. I’m not good at failure and I know it will happen. Talking to Mrs. Rooney opened my eyes on a lot of aspects that will happen when running a company and I need to learn to persevere. I will continue to learn as much as I can from any business owners I can find. Knowledge is the key to success so bring on the information. |

This project was meaningful to me, because I was able to get insight from entrepreneur who I admire. He has shown us that we must success our failures and get back up when you are in a financial turbulence. Humberto Garcia is seemed to be incredibly knowledgeable about car and how to minimize costs in a business. He is starting off, but you can feel the intensity in his character that he is going to be successful in the near future as long as he keeps up the good work. He should start learning a bit more about marketing and increasing his sales. Advertising would help him an a lot. His drive was intense that I feel capable of creating my own business soon in Los Angeles. |

This project was able to offer me a substantial amount of valuable insights, especially because my business experience does not encompass products/services in the field of technology. It was interesting to note how the challenges relate, as well as differ, across industries. One of the biggest lessons that stood out to me was the importance of networking and cultivating relationships. This can be as simple as keeping your investors in the loop, as Mr. Lohokare mentioned, or creating a level platform for your consumers, so as to understand better the needs of your particular market. Additionally, I found it interesting that the initial idea for the product was very simple, a handheld remote that could control various functions. However, the base technology for that was able to expand into something even more universal, that could be used in business landscapes as a daily benefit. It goes to show that one must remain flexible, as change is essential to the growth of any product, service, or company. On a more personal note, this project really helped me delve into the mindset of an entrepreneur. Normally, most people focus on the weaknesses in a product/service, which is of course, very important. However, it also equally important to capitalize on its strengths, so as to offer the best version of your vision as possible. It is important to understand that rejections and failures are all part of the process, and without understanding the mistakes, it is impossible to expand anything. Every failure represents a lesson and moves you closer to progress, hence, you cannot allow the fear of it to stop you from moving forward. I also learned that is is important to always expand your knowledge base--there will always be new forms of technology, new ways of marketing, etc. that you can educate yourself on to stay ahead of the game. |

I always though opening or starting a business is easy. You should just have an idea and you can start from there. But, from this project I learned that not true. Starting a business is hard and it requires a lot of hard work, patience, and commitment. My mom is entrepreneur and I decided to interview her to see how hard it was for her to open her business and become a designer. She always made it look so easy and like she never had problems at work. But, after I interviewed her, I learned so many things that I didn’t know. I always thought that my mom was successful from her first try of starting a business. I had no idea that I took her years or work to get to where she is today. Starting a business means having an idea that can get you somewhere someday. For the fashion industry it is really hard to stand out and have significant ideas that isolates you from others. However, my mom made her ideas come to life and isolated her work from all of her other competitors. Doing this project made me see my mom in a different way. It inspired me to work hard and work on my dreams till I achieve them. I grew up with having my mom’s business always around, but I didn’t think for a second to ever ask her about it or ask her about how she got to her place or how she became a successful business woman. This project taught me that nice things don’t always come easily. Becoming successful means having to work harder everyday to stay above everyone. |
