What really stood out was that when starting a business you have to sacrifice and take a leap of faith on having a business because sometimes when having a business not all the time you're going to have good days. Some of the best advice came from this project when I learned about how starting and maintaining a business can help me out whenever I start one but learning the basics and what kind of mindset I need to start a business. How to keep a business going really looks hard but the more you stay on top of your work you learn how to keep a business and to be successful doing it, many would say a business is a lot of work but creating something from the ground up is probably the best feeling ever. Doing this project really made me think of how my future can turn around and how a business can change the way you live your life.

What was meaningful about this project was that this family-owned business was always encouraging one another and finding solutions to having their business grow into something better. They don’t just have one business in total, they have other multiple businesses from different family members who even have trusted partners and it’s inspiring because they start from nothing and then work their way up into having a strong business. With that being said having a connection with their customers because that’s what makes their business successful. And for them to use old technology because they believe that it was unnecessary to do so. And I guess it gives the store comfortable and welcoming vibes which is why I believe people love to come back to the store.

The most meaningful aspect of this project was seeing how invested my interviewee was in her business. Not only does it take knowledge on what you're selling but most importantly, it takes passion. It is so important as a business owner that you wake up every day knowing you have a business to attend to and that it is not something you can just let sit for a few days. If you don't upkeep your business, sales will fall and so will interest in your brand, making a comeback almost impossible as a small business. Although who I interviewed was young it was inspiring to see how as a young woman she started this business from scratch and a dream. There were a lot more details that went into a business than I could have imagined and I now feel like I don’t give business owners enough credit after seeing how much work goes on behind the scenes.

This project was extremely insightful and I am grateful I got the chance to interview someone with a business, because if I were to start up my own business it would be difficult to figure all these things out on my own. I was able to learn about sources that I did not think of previously to look into, while also becoming more knowledgeable about topics such as social media which plays an enormous role in businesses, especially e-commerce, nowadays. All the little details that go on inside a business may seem insignificant to customers whether it is the certain color theme of an advertisement or what products went on sale that day, but it all truly comes together to be a well thought out business model.

This project was meaningful to me because I got to learn how entrepreneurs from all sorts of backgrounds came to be who they are today. I find it inspiring and motivational because their successes just fuel a fire inside me since I would one day like to have a successful business. I also liked how I got to know someone's life story and see what the person had to overcome to get where they are at today. It felt like I had a mentor which is something that I have never had before and it honestly felt amazing to look up to someone in such a way. Building friendships and valuable relationships is important to me because that is what I look for the most and this project gave me that opportunity. This project also opened up my eyes because it made me see how blessed I am to have these opportunities since other people around the world are restricted and can't follow their dreams due to the government placing so many regulations on them.
Another reason why the project was also meaningful to me is because I did not grow up in a family that had an education and learning everything about business was pretty tough. It took a lot of effort and studying to learn many things that most kids already knew because their families are involved in these systems or have an education where they know how these things work. This project is the first one that I have ever done which allowed me to actually interview an entrepreneur and see what it is actually like to run a business of your own. Doing this project made me very grateful and even more excited to keep learning about the world of business since I got to learn so much in a simple way.

While I was struggling to fill out the questions from one interview I conducted, my mother came for a visit to drop off a care package. When I told her about the problem, she immediately offered herself to be interviewed, something she had been reluctant to do before. It was interesting to sit down with her then and talk about her dreams and goals for the family business. Growing up I had never wanted to be a part of it. In my teenage years I even resented her “taking away” my weekends to help her with her work. Now, as I try to start my own business there’s a whole new appreciation for the courage my mother had to turn this hobby of hers into a successful business.
I may not have gained any new connections in my field through this interview alone. However, I’ve renewed a tried and true connection with my mentor in life! I remember being embarrassed that my mother would “steal” centerpieces from parties we attended in order to take them apart and learn what does into making them. Now, hearing about how she spends endless hours combing through the web, magazines, and other people’s events looking for ways to spice up her own decorations inspired me to be just as zealous in my own interests.
I also found it interesting to hear about how she networks. Like we discussed in class, when the topic is something you care about, people are more likely to believe in your success and reach out to you because of how sincere you are. I will be shadowing my mother for a few months
to learn how to establish those kinds of relationships with manufacturers and friendly competitors, while teaching her how to use social media like she’s been hoping to. Hopefully this can be the start of a new avenue to our relationship and I can begin to repay the support she’s shown me in everything I’ve accomplished so far.

The most meaningful aspect that I gained through this interview was the relatability that I had, especially coming from a similar Asian background. As a child of two immigrants we came from humble beginnings. My parents both had the same passion of being able to ensure a full and successful future for their children. So with very little to begin with, my mother worked as an entry level RN 4-5 nights a week while my father studied for his nursing exam at night while he watched my brother and I while working as a home health worker in the day. Ultimately they did achieve that. We eventually moved out of East LA and into West Covina where my brother and I both received private education and are both soon to be college graduates.
The reason why this interview reminded me of my parent's immigrant story is because I saw so much of my parents as I watched her work and the passion she spoke with when talking about her business and the experiences she had dealt with in the past few years. There are so many sacrifices and uncertainty about the journey to get to where you ultimately want be. Some days it's difficult to keep focus on the reason why you are doing what you're doing and for what reason. Both experiences have strongly pushed through some of the toughest times in their journeys but success is clearly seen through it.

There wasn't a specific thing that was most meaningful to me, in fact all of the information was very valuable. It was great being given the advice for having a successful business, because there are many things that piggyback onto main points, and everything connects in some way. When given the advice about what is important to survive as a small business. The points given are unique and rich with wisdom, they're points that can be taken far and deep into life and even used in other things other than business. Sources for information was very helpful as well because when starting a business knowing what's there and available for an upcoming entrepreneur can make the biggest difference in which direction the business steers towards. The advice specifically given is good too because it shows the type of connection that can be created between the customer and the worker being that they can form a bond and trust. Getting to know the person and showing you're skilled and efficient in what you do for a low price is great and increases the likelihood of the customer telling someone else about your services.
What i think is probably the most important thing is the financial part of the advice. When talking about the sources for finance there's a lot to get into that ties into how the business is run and the product. But the whole talk about it was interesting, especially when talking about pay for workers and how it ties with taxes and the type of methods and percentages, all of it is just extremely helpful because it also changes the type of tax forms depending on what type of workers you have. Its all great advice and if given the chance again I would definitely spend more time on the subject to thoroughly get it down and noted for future references. This project all around was great as a resource and gaining a possible mentor and even possible partner.
