This was meaningful to me because i got knowledge of what taking risks is all about and how one needs to know the knowledge of things in order to be successful. After this interview I know that I need to take a risk if I want to have a successful business. The competition will always be high because everyone wants to be successful and wants to make money to provide for themselves and family. |

I had a few take-aways from this interview: Firstly, their business model struck me as perfect: first things first, make a great product, and everything else will fall into line beyond that. It is that sort of consumer-oriented perspective that makes a great company, and from what I could see while at their establishment, the customers love the environment and the enthusiasm of the owners and employees. In question four, one of the interviewees mentioned that the process of sorting through government regulations was so complicated that it would have been nice to have a reliable resource that could have helped them through the process, and even pointed out that it would be smart of someone to build a business around that idea. This indicated to me how starting with a problem in mind might be a great way to start a business. I was faced with a professional who was saying that he wishes there were someone he could have paid to do this service, and that is a great place for a business to start, with customers already looking for someone to take their money. Beyond that, I found the advice of starting a business without debt to be a great goal. It makes a lot of sense how starting without debt removes that pressure to not only make a profit, but make a large profit quickly. Once you are in a position where you feel that you have to make a lot of profit quickly, you are set up for disaster. Also, they had some really good beer. |

For me, this project was especially interesting because I brought this person into the business a little over a decade ago. He was completely new to the business and I helped to train him from scratch. He is also my best friend. Seeing the growth he has experienced since he first started is a lot of fun and there's a certain sense of pride in seeing him go way beyond the initial training I provided. He also came from a very "get a job" culture and mentality, so listening to him approach his career as a professional and as an entrepreneur is exciting for me both professionally and personally because I see how far he's gone beyond his old comfort zone. It's amazing to me how his confidence has grown. He comes from the Philippines and there is a very strong culture in the Philippines of not standing out and a certain degree of subservience as a result of being subjugated by the Spanish and the Japanese. When I met him, he was humble to the point of self-deprecation and was extremely resistant to stepping out of line or venturing beyond his situation or "place in life". A physical example of this is that over the years, we've traveled together both professionally and for fun. On one of our later trips, he admitted to me that he enjoyed traveling with me because if he was put in a strange city for a seminar or conference, he would never get past the corner of the hotel he was staying at. He wouldn't venture out to explore. Now he's the first one to start planning where we will go and explore new places and find new adventures. This crosses over into his professional life as well. He gets excited about trying new marketing methods or attacking a new kind of transaction such as a short-sale. And he balances it with the proper preparation and tries to keep on top of his industry and his game. I also see tremendous growth from him is in the form of his knowledge of the mechanics and logistics of his profession. Since I no longer work in the sales side of real estate, he now teaches me about the new regulations and the finer points of negotiating in the current real estate climate. The student has truly surpassed the teacher! |

This project taught me to understand my passion, and to go for what I love. If I do what I love, then I would not feel like a repeating daily routine machine. But at the same time, I need to stay true to myself and keep in mind of realistic goals. I want to meet the market demand and feel good about myself at the same time. Like Nick said, it is about creating the market for people who have similar interest. Surfset idea came about by combing surfing with workout, and I hope one day I would be able to come up with my own business by combing different ideas together. I find keep up with the latest trend also makes a different in owning a business. It's important to be innovative to keep up with the latest to keep the business ahead of the competition. Being in the information era, a business's social reputation is as important as ever. People nowadays can search and information spreads for the good and the bad. I want to put the best display for my business as possible, and to make that happen I will need give the best customer service or product to the public. I learn that it is not always the money that leads to business to success, sometimes it's the people who put in their hard work and passion that made it to where they are. |

The most meaningful part about the project must be the journey and the passion that this person had. His business started out by wanting a shirt that no longer was on sale. He realize that making designs that people would love was his inspiration. He has so much passion for his customers. The journey to having a successful business sounds like a bumpy one, but with hard work and dedication anything is possible. He is doing what he loves now, that is something I would like to do. Be happy with my business and make easy money out of something I have love and passion for. |

The most meaningful thing about this project is learning about a business that I prefer not to do. It did teach me that running a business is a lot a work but I know I can handle it. My interest is not into this type of business field but it was fun learning about different businesses. Basically what I learn in this class really help me to know more about running my own business. I know the best ways to expose my business is over the internet, put up flyers, and hand out business cards. I need to keep my finances under control by hiring someone that would be great to help me set a business plan. I also learned that taking more business classes would help me learn more about running a business. Keeping my business running is to have a lot of customers that is interested in my business. Having the customers comfortable with my services and know that they would be able to trust me with what they are interested in. Try and keep my marketing rate up and do don’t let it drop. I also learned to just enjoy opening a business and do not be stressed out. This was a good project to do and learning new types of businesses. |

I think what was most meaningful to me about this project was actually getting the opportunity to sit down with an entrepreneur and conduct the whole interview, it gave me alot of insight for opening my future business. I have always said some day I will open my own security firm and wanted more information other than just being the one behind the uniform. I have been in the industry a long time but never really realized all the difficulties that this industry faces on the daily basis. Another thing that happened durring my interview was that this entrepreneur actually shared alot more information with methan what was initially requested. He shed some light on alot of the financial requirements that have to be met before you can actually go into business and start hirring your employees, as well as other information such as how the bonding works in this industry, one must obtain a bond for a set dollar amount by the clients insurance companies ensuring that any losses will be covered. To sum it up I will start small with some other kind of business and once that one grows and is making me money and I will open a security company down the line. |

9. The most meaningful thing that I got out of this project was that no matter what your position is in life, you can be that concrete rose. You will all ways be able to break through even the toughest situations. This particular interview hit home and taught me that I definitely need to take a look at my life and make immediate changes. I will most likely have a different outlook on life and I also learned to keep a more positive perspective on life and business in general. Also I learned that if I keep that in my mind throughout all the bad things that have or that may happen nothing can not deter me from where I want to be in life. This project has also motivated to me to keep pushing through all the bad things that may come about because in the end I will feel much better about how I lived my life. |
