The most meaningful thing to me about this project is gaining knowledge through someone else’s experiences. It was a great way to hear about what to do and what not to do without jumping out there on your own and waiting for the results. Even though if I start my own business I will find my own obstacles to learn from but having this interview will give me information to reflect on and use towards my decisions. It is inspiring to see how someone took a small idea or hobby and made it into a business that can grow. The person I interviewed has not had and schooling on business and that shows me that I can probably get better results due to the fact that I am currently learning about small business.
Also, this project has helped me realize that technology has helped a lot with small businesses and start-ups. There are so many apps and media options to choose from to upload a business and help others see what you are offering. It is a quick way to grow and also a quick way to fail because of the competition. Owning and operating a business is truly survival of the fittest.

The most meaningful to me was that I learned from this project that opening a new business is not a dream yesterday and then open it today. You need to extremely study the business station, the pros and cons, profits and wastage. I have to keep in mind the quality of the product and how it is related to the customers. Service is very important in any business. Writing a good plan for the business and for the employees is keeping a business continuously longer in success. Building a good credit and building trust with the banks so they will continue to finance the business. Setting an aggressive marketing strategy to bring to customers to the industry. Also following new technology is very helpful for a business.

Without a plan, it is merely a dream. But with writing a plan, it is outlining specific objectives, strategies, financing, a sales and marketing plan, and a determination of the cash I need to get things done. Also, writing a plan for a business and to the employees lets the business continue safer and longer. When dealing with the employees as if they were a part of a family can cause them to feel happy about working with someone they truly know. Without good quality, customers won’t want to come or buy any of the items. The service is very important to the customer because it saves their time instead of going and looking for that product themselves. Setting and aggressive marketing strategy is bringing new customers and keeping the customers you already have connected to the products. Also following new technology is very helpful to a business to increase sales items to increase income.

The meaningful thing to me about this project was that I got to experience with a professional how is it to have a business and create your own. That gave me to many ideas on how can I become an entrepreneur and make what I want to become.

Doing this project really opened my eyes a lot to the struggles of entrepreneurs. I never expected it to be so hard to reach your goals. I found that the advice I got was very meaningful and insightful. I found it surprising that they felt it was not important to use any special technology other than social media sites. It was also interesting that they don’t use any business information forms. However, I found it very captivating that they feel that they still have a lot to learn and they are taking it one day at a time. They understand that every day is different and business is hard to determine from day to day.
The entrepreneur that I interviewed, I know personally and I know they had a lot of struggles to get to where they are now. They faced bad credit issues and issues getting financing on a food truck and equipment. I have been standing behind them for about a year and half while they worked everything out. They are a very inspiring couple for middle class entrepreneurs. It’s so exciting to see so many entrepreneurs reaching their goals.

I thought being able to talk to someone that is currently running a business was a very good way to see what is out there. When you can actually sit down with someone who has been through all of the troubles a new business goes through you can learn to cut corners with their advice. This saves so much time and energy for you to work on other products in your business and really boost productivity, this in turn should help you make more money. I also felt the advice given about marketing and accounting could be very beneficial, it allows you to really focus on one thing at a time, and then knowing government policy and taxes can really be a game changer for the business. Without this interview I would not have learned about the importance of knowing certain guidelines that go into loan placement. I also feel that advertising for any business can be good business, I just never thought posting anything on craigslist would bring so much traffic to a website and business, as well as using inexspensive newspapers for ads to. This interview really gave me a better grasp of what is out there and what you can do with technology and how it can help your business grow at a faster rate.

The most meaningful part of the project is the knowledge I gain. Being able to sit down and talk to someone with experience is a huge benefit. Being able to see how they got there and what they did to get there and to know what studies I should focus while I am in school and when I get out of school. Hearing a person tell me if I am dedicated to the business, learn everything I can while in school and in life, and have a good business plan that I could have a successful business. That I should be observant on what is happening around the world and how that will affect my business and to have a plan to resolve it.
When the business first starts out and I hit a rough patch, I should not give up and just quit. In every business there will be a hard time but it is how I fix the problem that will be the deciding factor in my business. I learned that I need to make sure I surround myself with positive people, that they will make the work a lot easier and a more fun. If I have negative people working around me it will look bad to customers and will make the job harder and even will affect the attitudes of the other workers. I have learned a lot from during this project and learned the difficulty of owning and running a business will be but in the end it will be worth it.

The most meaningful part of this project was the interview I had with [name removed]. I was able to see his passions and the belief he had in himself to succeed. [name removed] spoke of his fear of failure and how this has impacted over the past few years. He told me at one point that his fears kept him from taking chances and allowing his business to grow. I had a sense that it would be easy to create self-doubt and to sabotage yourself which could impede your success. I feel that after interviewing [name removed] he was able to make me see that no matter how small of a success you have it is a means toward your desired end. When we have roadblocks we must change something or make adjustments to ensure success.
I learned that we all have this plan on how we want our life to be. If we remain to set in that plan it leaves no room for growth or open-minded options. It is important to seek clarity while on our paths of discovery. Being accepting of advice and honest feedback will only help me to grow and become better. I believe that my attitude will be a huge factor in my success. How I am perceived by other, from how I look to the way I talk. Every moment of the day I make an impression. I have to use this to my advantage right from the get go. It is all about attitude and confidence while remaining humble.

Doing this interview project was meaningful to me because I had a chance to talk to a young woman who has really inspired me. I have learned so much from her and have bonded more than ever with my fellow business owner. Talking to her I have realized that we have all been affected in some way by the economy. She too shares a passion for what she does and like me will not give up on her dream to be a successful business owner. It is not easy as most people think; I get that a lot where people are like “wow you own a business, how lucky”. Owning a business comes with great responsibility. My interviewee shares my same worries, and is dedicated and it is motivating to see such pride and dedication to serve the community.

I have learned that all businesses are similar in many ways. I did not have professional guidance in opening my business. I was given the opportunity to become a salon owner and having the guidance and experience my mother has being a hairstylist herself. It means a great deal to me to know that today’s youth has promise to make this world better. I am proud to be doing business in the same community as this dance studio. I enjoy being involved with the chamber and the network opportunities that come about. In my block there are 7 different types of businesses that are owned by women and that fills me with pride that we can make a contribution to the entrepreneurial world. It has been a fun and productive project.

I found this project to be very meaningful and important to me because it provided me with new information that I never would have been able to access any better than through an actual present time entrepreneur. The insight information that was given to me was very helpful. It made me realize that running a business may sound easy, but that it actually takes a lot of time, commitment, and preparation to manage all the ins and out about a business. I also discovered that having a great marketing strategy is a very important key for any business owner because it establishes who is willing to go that extra mile to get their name out their to compete with the big shots in order to get some kind of credibility going for their own business. This project also gave me different outlooks on how to properly run a business using different strategies; whether it is through online sales or in-store sales.

What I found to be the most meaningful and valuable tip about doing this project is that in order to be a successful entrepreneur, we must have the right tools, with the right set of skills, and the right kind of mentality to believe and trust in our visions and goals that we have set for our own specific business. In order for me to run my own business successfully I must first learn the proper skills from managing a business, to taking proper care of my customers, and to using different methods to execute a sale with ease. In order for any of this to happen I must first connect with any potential buyers through social media, newspaper advertising, or simply by handing out flyers. I learned through this project that marketing plays a key role into establishing connections with potential customers; this is why I believe marketing is a very important factor when it comes to starting your own business from scratch. However, what I found to be the most meaningful thing about doing this project is that I learned that having the right mentality in everything that you do for your business will encourage you to think positively throughout all your decision makings for your business. In other words, in order for myself to be successful I have to have confidence in myself and believe that my ideas and goals for my business will eventually come true if I strive to get there each and every day.

Doing this project has helped me understand in depth of how much work, focus and willingness it takes to run a business. I learned that having accounting, administrative, and managerial sophisticated skills are a prerequisite to operating a successful business. I’ve also learned that having a balanced budget and checking your profit and loss statement once a month to determine if a profit or loss is occurring is very important; your goal is to make a profit. Minimizing your liabilities is also another lesson I learned. It was suggested to me that I should incorporate into an S corporation status. This will protect my personal assets.
But the equally important lesson I’ve learned is the reality of dealing and cooperating with the Employee Development Department (EDD) and its mandated laws and regulations that enforce Workers Compensation Insurance compliance. I didn’t realize employees are protected by the State of California by guidelines that an entrepreneur has to follow. Nevertheless, as an entrepreneur I welcome the challenge and I look forward to working with my employees as a team which I will be directing to accomplish a common goal. The fact that I will be responsible for meeting a payroll every week on time and contributing to the community in which I work in and live in is also a humble incentive I have learned from this interview.
