Description: Diamond Business
I was in college when I was wondering what I should get into. Initially I wanted to be a doctor but later I was very intrigued by business management. I worked with my friends’ fathers and smaller companies before I pursued my MBA. I was really influenced by one of my friend’s father. He was a diamond dealer and had a different outlook on life and business. I had not heard much about this business before getting introduced to him. Before starting my own business, I had a partnership with my friend. My initial goal was to start my own business and have a reputable name in the market. I did not want to achieve success by shortcuts but by hardwork and gain the respect. Influenced by friends father who was a diamond dealer. To start own business and get successful

NAICS: 624 Social Assistance
Description: Family Day Care Home
I decided to get into this business when I was on maternity leave at a pre-school where I used to be one of four teachers but since I had complications with my pregnancy, I was not able to return immediately to work so they found a replacement to take my position. That is when I realized I still wanted to work with children and a fellow friend of mine who had her son enrolled at the pre-school told me about opening a day care. She said who would be better qualified to take care of children than a pre-school teacher. So, after researching what was needed to operate and run a child day care I found out I just needed to attend a couple of seminars and attend a few classes since most of the information regarding children I already knew since I was a pre-school teacher. My initial goal was to spend more time with my child who was born as a special need's child while taking care of a few other children since my son needed special attention all the time and could not attend school. However, as time passed and my son got better, I started to get more kids to look after as I could pay more attention to them now.

Description: Auto Parts Store
The decision was made when I saw a void in the automotive parts area . That void was that the customer were not getting the real experience of going to an auto parts store. Most business, in the auto part industry, are not concern with serving you the best way possible. They are just focus on profit and making business with you. We ,on the other hand ,treat you like family and care about every single person that walks into out doors. My initial goal was to give our customers the best experience in terms of customer service and make sure they become loyal to our auto parts shop. I want to build trust with my customers and assure the people would choose my auto part store .

Jose did mention that he never planned on buying a farm, growing crops, and selling them to stores. He said that he never ever thought about this business. He did mention how he did not even now what veggies/herbs/crops Chinese people liked using until working on the farm. He stated how his wife’s parents wanted to start this business and got their close friends and daughter to start it. He said that he was dragged along with it, since he was the son in law. He said that he didn’t mind it because he did like the successful outcome of it. He liked the checks but most importantly he was able to work with his wife and work on the farm which was also his home. So, he was never away from home.

NAICS: 541 Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services
Description: final mile delivery
My first business was wholesale, which means that I needed to ship to my customer a lot. It took several days shipping from city to city by UPS, FedEx and USPS and it is also costly. When we compared with Amazon, it was cheaper and quicker. Because Amazon moved a lot of packages through UPS, FedEx and USPS. So they gave Amazon a big discount and this was created the difficulty for smaller wholesaler like us to compete with Amazon. Because of this, rather than we competed with Amazon, we wanted to become the service provider for Amazon, so that we can make big success and continue offer the job to our employees. At the same time, we can make enough profit to support all our families

NAICS: 446 Health and Personal Care Stores
Description: Freelance Make-up Artistry
I’ve always loved makeup and people would always complement me on how great my makeup application was. People then started asking me if I did makeup on other people. At first, I would decline request for me to do other people makeup, I was good at doing my own, but wasn’t sure if I would be good at doing other peoples. I eventually gave in when my younger sisters had all their friends come over and they got ready for homecoming together. I did my sisters make up and then all the other girls offered to pay me to do theirs. I saw it as an opportunity to make money doing what I love to do. My goal was just that, to do something that I love while making money.

It all started with a company I was working for I was just a regular employee and my boss really liked me he started leaving me in charge and the customers liked the way I was. One day a customer by the name Armando approached me and started questioning me. He asked me questions such as how do you do it to always be working with a smile on your face and always receive us with such a positive attitude? He also asked me if I had my own upholstery business? I said no that I was just an employee? Armando, then said that’s really sad because if you had your own business I would totally recommend you to people that I know. Later own Armando offered me a job he wanted me to complete and order he had for a Night Club, but he wanted me to do this order a lone. I accepted, the club liked my services and they recommended me to a different customer. I then later left the company I was working for, because with the personal orders I had I didn’t have time to go to work anymore. That’s when I realized I was already doing it on my own. Thanks to my first 3 personal upholstery orders I was able to save up and by my own tools. That’s how I started without even knowing what I wanted to do, but the moment that Armando offered me that opportunity I knew it was something good. I took the right decision and that's what business is about. It is about taking a risks. I didn’t have an initial goal since I didn’t know that, that first opportunity was going to open doors for me. Now my goal is to keep growing and i'm even thinking about opening a new ware house where I can keep all my materials maybe hire few people who can help me out with the new orders.

3. I have worked in the Java Industry for close to thirty years. I started as an intern and became Head Designer at Perception Inc. and was recruited to NYCAL and so on. After nearly 30 years in the fashion industry as a designer, I wanted to expand my horizons into the entrepreneurship field. I had a minor setback in 2014 due to health issues but continued my business after recovering. I graduated FIDM, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise, way back when and after graduating, I made a comfortable living for myself and my family. But I could not continue working as head designer until retirement. There needed to be change so I made BOTICA 637 INC. My initial goal for this business was to focus on wholesale. It worked amazing for about 3 years but competiton was too much and a dress I sold for $19.50 was continuously docked by the wholesale buyer to $17.50 and later they asked for $14.75. I declined orders from that company and started building an online platform.

NAICS: 311 Food Manufacturing
Description: Mexican Candy Company
This is a family business but I didn't decide to follow in my grandfather's and father's footsteps until I was about to graduate from college. I worked at Baskin Robbins since I was in high school and I really wanted to focus on my last year as a business student. I asked my Dad if I could work with him because I knew he could offer flexibility. While I was working in the family business customers began to ask for my help, vendors wanted to offer me pricing and employees began to come to me for help and suggestions. I began to notice places where we needed improvements and slowly implemented new ideas and more machinery. Before I knew it, I had quit a part time job and inadvertently gotten a full time job. My initial goal was to finish school and get a career, and that's what I did. I didn't plan to work in the family business, i just got sucked in and liked it very much.
