More Than One Method
There are four methods available on this web site to help you determine what type of international business career might be a great match for you. You might find one of the methods to be most appropriate at this time, however, we recommend that you try all four. It can be meaningful to see if you end up with the same career choice(s). In this situation, knowledge is power - multiple methods will help you to become more knowledgeable about your international business career options.
The Methods - Decide on a Starting Point
What is CGBP?
CGBP is an acronym for Certified Global Business Professional - the professional credential for international trade practitioners. It was developed and is administered by NASBITE International ® . According to John Larsen, Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Coordinating Committee Secretariat at the U.S. Department of Commerce, over half of the U.S. Department of Commerce field staff are CGBP certified.
I - CGBP Career Explorer Tool
With this method you will utilize the Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) credential as a framework for career exploration. The CGBP credential covers international trade topics across 4 Domains, each of which contains Tasks. In all, there are a combined 32 Tasks.
Exploring each of the 32 CGBP Tasks that interest you can be a great way to gain an appreciation for the types of career opportunities that exist. You might like to select an area(s) of interest and then drill down into the types of occupations (appropriate to that Task) that appeal to you. Or, you might like to systematically explore all careers associated with all of the CGBP Tasks. Either way, exposure to detailed international business task areas will help you to explore occupational choices that span the international business discipline.

II - International Business Career Survey
This survey spans a wide array of international trade occupations, and is based on the CGBP credential. Start by rating key international business tasks. This will help to identify particular international business related occupations, based on your preferences. Exploring these in more detail will allow you to prioritize preferences with confidence.

III - Select Jobs of Interest
Specific International Business Occupations
Scroll through a listing of over 1,100 specific jobs that are related to international business. At first glance, many might not seem to be related to global trade because they often deal with both domestic and international business responsibilities. Select those that may be of interest - you will get links to active job listings for that specific occupation, and detailed resources to help you prepare a career path (ladder).
