NAICS: 315 Apparel Manufacturing
Description: Screen printing
The way we got into this business was actually kind of unintentional and by accident. Originally, we had absolutely no idea we were going to go into screen printing. We had a clothes shop at a low end mall, we were barely making enough money to pay the rent. On one occasion a person walked into our booth and asked if we could print 50 “R.I.P” shirts for a relative that had passed away. We quickly said yes without knowing what we had gotten ourselves into. Two weeks later we saw the money in it and without thinking about it abandoned the clothing idea and went straight into screen printing. Fast forward to today and we have a warehouse

a. I love this business very much and wanted to make a difference in my community by helping the people in my area. I talked to my husband about the idea I have and he encouraged me to put my idea to work, it makes me have a closer relationship with my customers as well as with other small business in the area, and at the same time we decree traffic because clients in my community are able to walk to buy our goods, and we refer clients from one another and reduce automobile use, resulting in better air quality and as well as helping our community grow by making the tax dollar’ stay in the community while improving our city and personal life by increasing the possibility of a good retirement in the future.

NAICS: 812 Personal and Laundry Services
Description: Dog Groomer
I really had no goals initially set to be a dog groomer, after graduating from Mt. Sac i was focused more focused on showing sheep. I learned how to groom sheep that set the standards for competition. I learned how to work with the clippers and scissors very quickly and eventually picked up my grooming skills very quickly. Continually, i realized that i was not making enough money to maintain myself and i decided to find myself a job in bathing. I figured that i could start as a bather and from there i would find a door to dog grooming. I applied as a bather, but i was having issues finding stability working for other grooming shops. I am the type of person who likes to do things my way or no way, consequently, i always had complications with managers and other coworkers. I finally decided to work from home that way i can do things the way i want when i want. I am my own manager and i figured different ways to groom certain dogs so much that in order for me to be able to groom those certain dogs it has to be done the way i was taught. I have learned to love my at home business which later became my only position that i now have and is continuing to grow.

NAICS: 484 Truck Transportation
Description: Truck Driver Staffing
“It was an accident. Really. When I was working as a dispatcher way back, a co-worker of mine got a job offer for a dispatch job at another business but she had to turn it down because she just had a kid and she didn’t feel she would be able to take the offer so she referred me instead. So they interviewed me and I didn’t even get the job. I got the job later after the guy they hired instead of me quit on them after two weeks. So when I started I thought I was going to be doing dispatch work but this was more of a liaison type job where I spoke to clients. I was looking around for the trucks wondering what was going on until I realized that I would be doing a different type of work. On top of that I was chewed out hard by the manager after two weeks for not being as quick as I should have been even for being so new. It was at that point where I experienced a pivotal moment in my life. Even though I was still young, I was a father now, I had taken up more responsibilities at home and I had more responsibilities at work and I was feeling overwhelmed. I realized that I had to do this for my wife and family so I continued to work hard. Eventually I learned enough on the job to where I became a manager. It was now at that point where my dedication paid off because I was recruited by another staffing agency to be a manager. I worked there for about six years until I was recruited again by another company to help them grow their staffing division into a billion-dollar revenue producing arm, which we did. I eventually lost my job with them which is why I decided to start my own business and here I am now doing what I’ve learned over the years.”

NAICS: 561 Administrative and Support Services
Description: Cleaning Services
I decided to get into this business simply for personal satisfaction. Despite it not being necessary to have a business, I find a sense of personal achievement in knowing that I can still do something with my life and stay entertained, it’s much better than staying at home and letting time slip by. There was more than one goal when I started the business, the first goal was to provide people with a service that was too time consuming for them. Multiple times the simplest things cause people the biggest troubles. I just provide them the opportunity to outsource a service so that they can get to important matters in their life. The second goal was to help out others by providing them a job considering the current times.

NAICS: 722 Food Services and Drinking Places
Description: Mexican Restauran
“I decided to have my own restaurant because, I have a lot of knowledge for seafood and meat. I had been working in the different restaurants and different positions such as cook, waitress, and manager position. The last restaurant I had been working there for 2 years. The owner of the restaurant was a very good boss, he taught me a lot about having a restaurant. I learned how to administrate a restaurant, and the different supplies that were needed, how to schedule the employees and many other tips. He gave me a lot responsibilities in his business, the owner trusted me and he began to go leave the restaurant under my supervision more often. I spent a lot of time and energy for the restaurant and I rarely asked for days off but when I had a family emergency and I came back to work the manager had changed with me. I knew in that moment that it was time to open my own restaurant. After searching for a good location with a good rent I finally found a place that suited me and the type of restaurant I wanted to open. My initial goal was to make customers feel comfortable and have them want to come back to my restaurant. I believe I have accomplished this goal because I have seen the same customers frequently and I have read good comments on the yelp page.”

NAICS: 236 Construction of Buildings
Description: General Contractor
I really got in to this business by mistake. I needed a room addition on my house. I found that the number of contractors out there were taking advantage of people. Therefore, I decided to get into the industry because I wanted to add a room addition to my house. After I finished with the room addition, I felt good about the job I had done. Then I thought, it would be a waste to throw the tools away. Therefore, I kept the tools. Then I was talking to homeowners and I found that they needed a room addition on to their property also. Therefore, I decided to take the contractors license test. I passed it. Therefore, I decided to try one house. I found that the homeowner was happy with what I had done. Then I had done a second and a third room addition. I was in business. I was making more money than my regular job. My goal was to make enough money so that I could retire earlier than 62. That is how I got started.

NAICS: 451 Sporting Goods, Hobby, Book, and Music Stores
Description: Jiu Jitsu Gym
I’ve always had a business. I used to own a small construction company. I had no intent of starting this business during that time. I was going to use my knowledge of running this business to grow my construction company at the time. I got the opportunity through my instructor to teach while I was working and doing jiu jitsu and I enjoyed it. Then I started teaching my kids and family and then it grew from there. I didn’t plan on doing it but I realized if I was working a lot at a construction company then still made energy to train and teach at night I must really love this sport. My initial goal was to put all my effort into this business and see where it would take me. I also wanted to learn something I can pass onto my kids and I had learned jiu jitsu so I thought it was perfect. I wanted them to enjoy it as much as I did.

NAICS: 238 Specialty Trade Contractors
Description: Mobile paint and sip company
I decided to commit to this kind of business after assisting multiple company owners from various industries build and manage their companies. I knew I was ready to build my own when I noticed I was the reason these companies were in business, without me they would be struggling for clients. I saw my time was more devoted to the company compared to the owners, they didn’t put in as much effort as time passed. Through all of my experience I learned that I have a passion for creating and teaching. Combining that with my love for entertaining, so was born my fun and thriving business. My goal was to not only make money, but I wanted to do something that makes me happy and turn it into a business. Another goal of mine was to put smiles on people’s faces, my business provides laughter and happiness for my customers.

NAICS: 811 Repair and Maintenance
Description: automotive repair
I decided to get into this type of business to have a job and to work and to make good decent amount of money. And to always meet new people as my clients. My goal is to have a lot of customers and to always have sales at my shop. Another thing would be to help my customers with the best decision on their vehicle as far as pricing and what would be the best decision for their repair. For example, tires on their car, show them the different branes that I carry and explain to them the options on the tire. Some tires have more thread than others and they last longer than others. Some are 40.000 miles which will last a reasonable amount of time and some will last longer because they have more tread like 60.000 miles tread. The 60.000 miles has better friction and traction and is rated A. as like the 40.000 miles tire is just a reasonable tire that we can all buy.
