NAICS: 541 Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services Description: Personal fitness trainer life coach |
| 3. I was in a partnership business for almost eight years. It was a brick and mortar gym. My partner and I grew the business together and it was great. A year and a half ago, however, I realized that my passion for the business had changed. I was mostly doing the business end of things and my partner was the main coach. I realized I enjoyed coaching very much. I felt this is where my joy came from, seeing others get the “ah-ha!” moments of being in charge of their own health and fitness. The problem was that my coaching style was different than my partners. We decided to part ways and I continued my passion for one on one coaching. I consider myself as a life coach. My clients deal with hoards of other issues that relates indirectly to their physical health. I am a sole proprietor of a life coaching business. |

NAICS: 323 Printing and Related Support Activities Description: Commercial Printing |
| What’s the best way to decide on what kind of business I would like to open, and what kind of goals should I have? Life experience has always been a big part of my decision making, good or bad. In my high school years, I think there were two kinds of elective that were offered, wood shop and printing, I decided on printing for the simple fact it showed me that I would be creating things out of nothing, and I liked the technology part of it, I also liked the machinery aspect of it,” I did not know at the time if that was my life time goal, these were things I just liked doing”. “I never thought at that point in my life that I would own a print shop. Especially at the age of fifteen.” After high school I had found myself enrolled at Fullerton College, learning offset printing, graphics. And of course my English, Science, and Math, and all my other general electives that had to be done to graduate. Even after graduation I did not have the aspiration to own a printing company. I was already working for a printing company at twenty years old. Having not just the ability to run a print shop, but because of doing this through high school and college I had the theory behind this. So if I have to say, it’s about learning about your trade, not just having the knowledge about it, but being good at it. One day that opportunity came about, in the way of the LA Times, I had seen an ad for a print shop that was selling for four thousand dollars. Hard to believe, but you got to remember that this was in nineteen seventy six and times were a lot different back then. |

NAICS: 487 Scenic and Sightseeing Transportation Description: Adventure and Travel company |
| I decided to get into the tourism business because it sounded cool to travel for your work. Getting to go somewhere new, and incredible, and get paid for it. It doesn’t get any better than that. So coming out of college I only knew that I didn't want the typical 9-5 M-F job. That just wasn’t going to do it for me. Tour guiding offered me the escape from the dreaded 9-5 job that I wanted to avoid. My initial goal was and still is to lead a happy and fulfilling life. My business has let me achieve this. I love what I do, and the saying is true, and that is if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. |

NAICS: 541 Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services Description: Graphic Design and App Development |
| As far as freelancing for graphic design and app development, the commonalities stem from wanting to set my own time. It seems ridiculous, but what it really is is wanting to be free. I wanted to somewhat set my own pace within the system, and doing graphic design was what I was good at. I wanted to broaden my horizons so I also got into app development since I feel as if apps are the biggest trend as of today in social media. It is not your typical business with payroll, multiple employees, a location, and things like that, but it is something that I can take control of on my own and worry about whats in front of me and not whats around me. So my initial goal was to just put what I like out there into the world. I would draw on my free time, and wanted people to see this. But I also love technology and the use of computers and phones, so I felt as though graphic design was a good thing to get into. I feel like I have a lot more to learn, especially in app development, but I have had a good start so far and people are starting to recognize who I am, so I would say my initial goal is being completed in my opinion. |

While coach [Name Removed] still works with both pros and collegiate athletes he wanted to make sure that middle school and high school kids who are looking to improve their talents and get to the next level had the same opportunity. Coach [Name Removed] started out by playing football in the Bay Area and then got into coaching at a local high school where he grew up. He then decided to move to San Diego where he joined a team under “the QB Guru” George Whitfield Jr. to help get collegiate quarterbacks ready for the NFL Scouting Combine and their Pro Days leading up to the NFL Draft. After he was done doing that, he decided to branch out on his own and do that same type of drills and give the same expertise to younger quarterbacks looking to eventually make the same jump to the pros. |

NAICS: 812 Personal and Laundry Services Description: Dog & Cat Grooming Salon |
| My wife and I started this business in our backyard. She attended grooming school when she was 20 and saw pet grooming as an expression of art. She loves dogs and loves making them look beautiful. Pretty soon, our business grew from grooming just family and friends' pets to new faces and new dogs in the neighborhood. She initially wanted to groom dogs to save money to study Veterinary Medicine, but most of California's colleges and universities were impacted by the state budget and after careful consideration-we both dropped out of college to start this business. I was a Mechanical Engineer major, and she was a Biochemist at the time we opened our dog grooming salon-we were 25 years old. Four years later, here we are, and I think we're doing pretty good so far. |
