My father has 3 restaurants in Hong Kong. I grew up around people who were waiting tables, cooking, and learning about food service. Once he hired a sushi chef, and I stood by him to see how he made sushi. I learned how to make them myself. The local bakery hired a baker who is also one of my friends. I know what works and how to avoid wasting time or wasting money, so I knew this can become a life goal to run a restaurant. I love the people who I grew up with. Even if I do not have a restaurant, I still think I would read and update myself on the art of cooking, the art of hospitality, the art of catering, and the art of serving food. The thing is, many people love this business, so you have to be very competitive. Sometimes, if you think you made a mistake and picked a bad location for your restaurant, it is wiser to close down.

3. I decided to get into this business because I did commercial electrical, commercial Industrial, and residential electrical. I was a five year apprentice and I got my certificates through the states. From that point on I was pretty good at it. So I figured I could just follow up on it and get my C10 license or go all the way to get my B license. Witch at that point I could do every single aspect of construction. Witch is mechanical, framing, foundation, electrical, and pretty much anything that has to do with construction. So at that point I decided to just go through general contracting and be able to do anything. My goal is to buy my own land to build houses or commercial buildings and sell them. I did a little of real- estate with a partner also. That would be my goal, buy the land then build it from the ground up. Then sell it at a good price for the customer.

At the same time it was the perfect opportunity to develop my career as an engineer in this country. I was not able to develop my career as an engineer in my own country because I had to immigrate to the United States. My goal was to become the owner of my own corporation in order to provide a good economic status to my four children and my wife. Also my goal was to buy a huge truck and a lot of equipment for my corporation in order to be able to perform different constructions no matter the size, or the style that contracted customers want. I went through humiliation, abandonment, and starvation. I never wanted to feel that way again. When you want something so bad you fight no matter how hard or how many times you fail. - Well, my dad has worked in the landscape industry most of his life. It was one of his first jobs when he emigrated here from Mexico. Growing up, I would sometimes go with him on the job and see what it was all about. Eventually, I went to college and got a business degree. I never thought about going into the landscape field but seeing the benefits of developing a business with the existing clients my dad has was exciting. Anyway, I got the business license and started to see what we could do to change the way in which my dad handled his clients. My dad was running his business like it was a chore rather than something exciting. For me, California has an amazing landscape and we should take advantage of it so turning his business but also changing his client’s view of landscape was exciting! Getting people to admire the different possibilities within the area of landscape was really fun! I guess that’s the real reason I got involved, I want to make my dad’s job fun again.
