Why I got into the floral business was because I knew that I would succeed at it. I grew up always intrigued by nature and the beauty of flowers and plants that God created. I always felt artistic and had a creative flare. I loved working with flowers and was intrigued by them. Even though I came from a family of dairy farmers, my interest were at the opposite end of the spectrum and I was encouraged by my grandmother to pursue my dream. As a teenager I worked in a florist shop that was owned by an older woman and she let me learn every aspect of the business. My goal was to one day own my own flower shop as I had seen and read about the success stories of others in this field and it was way better than being a farmer to me.

There are easier occupations, ones that don’t require 12 hour days 6 days a week, but this spoke to my heart. It is definitely not about becoming rich, if it wasn't for my husband’s off-farm job we could not support ourselves and maintain a small ranch operation like ours. Not only does it pay for our ranch expenses but it provides us with health insurance – something we could not afford on our own. Every farm household I personally know or have read about relies on off-farm income by a spouse.

I decided to get into this type of business because this is what I knew how to do. My father taught me all the equipment at an early age and how to use them. This was a simple and easy way to put food on the table. The work was all local. I never had to travel far away from home. If you know how to properly do a service and do it with quality, why not make some money out of it. The initial goal I would say was just to provide for my family. The more clients and customers I had the more money I would make. This isn't the best job to have but it provides and the goal was to earn as much as I can from a hard days work.

My brother and I have a friend who owns a banquet hall and he had been trying to get his kid and his wife to join the photo booth business because it complements what he does. No one really wanted to do it so he suggested it to us and we decided to jump in. Since I had just received some settlement money from my motorcycle accident, I decided to use some of it to get us started. Before this, my brother had been collecting vintage for years in order to eventually open a pawn shop but instead we joined our ideas and opened a place that sells vintage products and photo booth services. An odd combination I know, but so far it has worked. People come in to look at our retail and then notice our photo booth on the side.
