NAICS: 453 Miscellaneous Store Retailers Description: Florals - silk and natural design |
| Why I got into the floral business was because I knew that I would succeed at it. I grew up always intrigued by nature and the beauty of flowers and plants that God created. I always felt artistic and had a creative flare. I loved working with flowers and was intrigued by them. Even though I came from a family of dairy farmers, my interest were at the opposite end of the spectrum and I was encouraged by my grandmother to pursue my dream. As a teenager I worked in a florist shop that was owned by an older woman and she let me learn every aspect of the business. My goal was to one day own my own flower shop as I had seen and read about the success stories of others in this field and it was way better than being a farmer to me. |

NAICS: 112 Animal Production Description: Cheese Maker and Lamb producer |
| It began as a desire to be involved in agriculture, food production and livestock. There is a heavy responsibility of caring for animals and the land and I enjoy the challenge of it. There are easier occupations, ones that don’t require 12 hour days 6 days a week, but this spoke to my heart. It is definitely not about becoming rich, if it wasn't for my husband’s off-farm job we could not support ourselves and maintain a small ranch operation like ours. Not only does it pay for our ranch expenses but it provides us with health insurance – something we could not afford on our own. Every farm household I personally know or have read about relies on off-farm income by a spouse. |

NAICS: 561 Administrative and Support Services Description: Gardening Business |
| I decided to get into this type of business because this is what I knew how to do. My father taught me all the equipment at an early age and how to use them. This was a simple and easy way to put food on the table. The work was all local. I never had to travel far away from home. If you know how to properly do a service and do it with quality, why not make some money out of it. The initial goal I would say was just to provide for my family. The more clients and customers I had the more money I would make. This isn't the best job to have but it provides and the goal was to earn as much as I can from a hard days work. |

NAICS: 453 Miscellaneous Store Retailers Description: Photo Booth Services and Vintage |
| Honestly, we just fell into it. My brother and I have a friend who owns a banquet hall and he had been trying to get his kid and his wife to join the photo booth business because it complements what he does. No one really wanted to do it so he suggested it to us and we decided to jump in. Since I had just received some settlement money from my motorcycle accident, I decided to use some of it to get us started. Before this, my brother had been collecting vintage for years in order to eventually open a pawn shop but instead we joined our ideas and opened a place that sells vintage products and photo booth services. An odd combination I know, but so far it has worked. People come in to look at our retail and then notice our photo booth on the side. |

NAICS: 811 Repair and Maintenance Description: Computers Maintenance and Repair |
| I had always been interested in fixing things, so I went to school to get the knowledge that I needed to fix electronic devices. I wanted to have my own repair business. My initial idea was to open up a TV repair and electronic devices shop, but with the new TV technology and the warranties that the companies offer to their customers, I was forced to reassess my business goal. I was introduced to computers while I was working at a middle school as an electronic technician. It was a new technology coming out and I saw the its potential. The computers had always been around, but the technology that I was interested was the personal computer. With that in mind, I decided to go back to school and get the training that I needed to learn how to repair computers. |

NAICS: 238 Specialty Trade Contractors Description: Roofing Contractor |
| My father and i started the business after i left college. We had very little capital, and financing was difficult due to the age of the company and our experience. We wanted to grow the business for our families to leave a legacy for our kids and their children. I was also very proud of the projects we do and their effect on the world. The buildings and structures we work on are always interesting. Also, to install a roof system and have it work as was designed gives a huge sense of accomplishment. |

NAICS: 812 Personal and Laundry Services Description: Nail salon and beauty bar |
| a. I always dreamt of opening my own business; however I needed a lot of guidance. I have worked with my family company for 8 years now, and I feel like being an integral part of a successful company, I have learned so much about what is required to be a business owner and more importantly be successful. Although I will say that even with all that experience under my belt there is still a lot to learn. My family company is in the construction industry. Although I enjoy what I do there, I have always wanted my own business to be more “girly”, so a beauty bar was right up my alley. I’ve always loved doing my nails and my friends nails. A lot of my close friends and female relatives are talented when it comes to hair, makeup, and nails so it was a perfect match! |

NAICS: 112 Animal Production Description: Equestrian full service boarding and training facility |
| The reason I decided to get into this business was because my wife is a horse trainer. She had the horse training background, and I have the business background, so I combined both into one, and now we work side by side. Also, our daughter works with us when she is not in school. We specialize in the English discipline, which includes jumping and dressage. Our initial goal was to be able to have a family business that makes a good income, it’s a tough business, which gives us headaches at time, but we have reached our goal. What also helps is that we all have a different focus. My wife looks at the business from a trainer’s point of view. I have my costs and business point of view. Our daughter brings the boarder or customer’s point of view in that she grew up around the facilities. She is probably the closest view to the customer’s that we have in the family and business. |

NAICS: 453 Miscellaneous Store Retailers Description: Hookah Lounge |
| Hookah lounges are definitely a common past-time activity amongst the young adults, and the popularity of it is growing day by day. Most hookah lounge owners, were once customers of older, more established hookah-serving cafes and restaurants and/or lounges. So owning one has always been a dream of mine, and now a dream come true. The decision to get into this business was driven by passion, and interest. It is fun, it is profitable, and it doesn’t feel like work. A popular quote goes as follows “If you do what you love, you never have to work.” Once I found out what my passion was, I quickly started to put together business plans, and ideas, to make it into a reality. Enjoying hundreds of flavored tobacco flavors, engaging with customers who love hookah, and the art of serving some of the best and finest hookahs in the market, above and beyond the competition, does feel like an accomplishment. |
