Description: Buy and Sell Business Type Electronics Obsolete and Surplus Inven
I kind of just fell into the business. My sister works for a company that does the same type of business that we do. I did some construction for them when I was twenty, the owner of the company ended up offering me a position to open up a couple retail stores for him, so I took the offer and worked for him for ten years. After that a couple buddies and I decided to open up our own company and we started in my own garage, today we are in a 45,000 sq ft warehouse. My initial goal was to match my income from my old company, in which I achieved my first year. Then continue to grow and make as much money as possible.

NAICS: 441 Motor Vehicle and Parts Dealers
Description: Aftermarket automotive parts
My main goal was to make money. Secondary to that was to be my own boss. The idea of being my own boss was appealing because I felt like I should be able to do with my time as I please and not build my life around a job. I chose this particular business because I’ve always had an interest in cars. Building cars is a hobby and something I do for fun. I enjoy being in this business and all the relationships that come along with it. I deal with other car enthusiasts and get good connections involving car modification. I chose something that I like because I feel if somebody does something they enjoy, they will do it better giving a higher chance at success.

NAICS: 811 Repair and Maintenance
Description: Sewing Machine Repair, Custom Embroidery
“Well that is a long story, but in short back in the 50’s and 60’s, the post Second World War era, there was a bit of corruption existent in labor unions and the unions kept sewing machine mechanics from organizing. So after 9 years of working for a dreadful someone, I decided to go on my own venture a free-lance sewing machine technician. My initial goal was to get away from all the corruption and do things my way, the right way I believed, it felt better at first not having to deal with people clarifying what I can and cannot do. I soon learned that it was not as easy as I thought, but I stuck it out and here I am almost 50 years later, one of the good guys still standing.”

Our initial goal was to establish a business although we had not identified which type of business we were to set up. Our major focus was to ensure that, by the end of the period had planned, after collecting the necessary capital, the next step was to set up a business. We decided to get into the business of selling meat after discovering that the demand for it is very high. Apart from that, there are limited meat business activities where people end up walking for long distances before they get meat. These two major reasons prompted us to enter into this kind of business.

NAICS: 311 Food Manufacturing
Description: Lebanese-Armenian Pastry Stores
Well I was born in Beirut, Lebanon. My family owned a pastry store there for many years. I grew up surrounded by desserts and remember how my dad used to smell like Zalabia (fried funnel cake) when he came home late at night. I had a sister and two brothers who were not interested in taking on the family legacy. I came to the United States 33 years ago and settled in San Diego, Ca. After working multiple dead end jobs, my wife convinced me to reach back to my roots and encouraged me to open our first Lebanese-Armenian Pastry store. Due to a saturated Armenian community in Pasadena, we decided to make it our destination. We took out a small loan and proceeded to open a very small shop selling very basic chocolates and desserts. Here we are, 25 years later and have stores in three locations: Pasadena, Glendora and Granada Hills.

I saved up enough money and decided that I would like to start my own seafood import and export company.

Upon graduating from law school, I soon realized that my negotiation and networking skills along with my passion for the arts were tailored for the entertainment industry. To be more specific, as a bilingual Latino I saw the power of the emerging Latino market and wanted to be a leader in that particular industry. It wasn't my initial goal seeing as I went to school to become a lawyer, but goals change. Going through law school and learning what I did helped understand the business part of my passion.
