NAICS: 315 Apparel Manufacturing
Description: Clothing line for kids/ adults
I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer and it was my dream to be able to create my own clothing line. I was raised in Australia and I didn’t want anything more but to come to the US and start my business here in LA. I never saw myself working for anyone but myself. I loved clothes and I wanted to make my ideas come to life. Meeting my partner was heavenly! He studied business. I love the balance we have because it is very important that as a partnership, we each have different qualities that are equally important to our business. Now I don’t only have a clothing line for adults but also for kids. It’s such an amazing feeling to know everything you can accomplish when you follow what you most desire.

NAICS: 811 Repair and Maintenance
Description: Repair Shop
I have always had a love for cars, ever since I was a young boy. Growing up I would always see my father working on the 1947 Fleetline in our garage, he would show me and explain to me each part of the car, what it's purpose was etc. When I was finally in my teen years when most of my friends would have cars that would either break down, or have a maintenance issue I would bring them to my father to help out, little by little I started doing all the auto repair work on all of my buddys cars. One approached me that I should open a shop, that it would be good money, and could also help out when I have a family of my own. My Goal much like everyone's was to make money doing something I loved, and if that also meant bringing revenue to my home for a family then so be it, now here I am almost 30 years later, business still up and running, a paid off house with my beautiful family.

NAICS: 812 Personal and Laundry Services
Description: Cleaning Homes Professionally for $20/hr
My initial goal was to prove people wrong. All the people who told me to go to college or you’ll never do well in life. Or that you need to take this route or you’re not going to make enough money to be happy. I just wanted to prove them wrong, and do something where I was in control. I didn’t want to do something where someone else could tell me what to do. I mean I’ve done other things like I worked at Starbucks when I was fifteen years old. I tried a lot of things, like I developed a web app for people to order ahead of time with their Starbucks rewards card and when they got there the Starbucks drink would be waiting for them. And it actually works really well, because I used to work in Chicago in the middle of a big business plaza where the line would be out the door and up the escalator some days. So it really helped but I had to really fight for that, I had to go over my floor managers head and hit up the district manager instead to try and get this implemented. Then my floor manager sat me down and was like, “You’ll never go anywhere in life if you go over someone’s head like that,” and gave me a big lecture about it. At that point I had had enough and I didn’t want to do something where someone could look down at me and tell me that. So I guess that’s more rebellious than average. And of course you want to make a lot of money. You want to build something cool. You want to solve a problem. I think the best entrepreneurs don’t think of business ideas in terms of things that make money, they think of problems. You want to know how to launch a business? You find a problem and you solve it well enough so that people pay you to solve it. That’s also what I wanted to do, solve a problem. And I know cleaning homes might be a little strange because it’s a luxury problem right? It is a problem though that at the price we set, you could afford home cleaning. That’s our goal, to revolutionize the cleaning market so everyone that everyone can afford a home cleaner. And how do we do that? We break it down. We see that big professional cleaning companies are charging twice as much as we are or more, and paying the cleaners very little. So we can revolutionize the market just by charging a ridiculously low rate, to make it a commodity. Now you can go get an hour of home cleaning for nothing. But now that I’m not contributing anymore, I want to solve other problems. Real problems, problems you need time to solve. Not luxury problems. Luxury problems are easy because your target demographic are rich people who have money to give you. That’s a good market to be in. But I think the more attractive markets to me are markets where there is not a lot of money in it right away. Like education for example, how do you make a business in education that’s profitable nowadays? Not many people do it. It’s like a vision where you just want to solve a big problem.

NAICS: 722 Food Services and Drinking Places
Description: Mexican-American Fast Food Restaurant
He tells me that he got into this type of business because of his experience he got. He was formally a cook in this type of restaurant business. He got a job to be a cook in a restaurant just to survive and pay the bills. He eventually worked his way up to a better position in the business. He then reached the position of being a manager in a restaurant. He also tells me that he did not want to work in another field because he does not like to work in a field he does not know and is familiar with. After being a manager he eventually knew how this type of business works and is familiar with all aspects of the business. His initial goal was to own his own restaurant, and in about 5 years of working in the restaurant business, he finally got his own restaurant. Not only did he get his initial goal, but he tells me he has owned many restaurants throughout his life. He tells me he bought a small restaurant, but sold the business because he was thinking in a much larger scale. He used that money he got from the other restaurant and bought even a bigger restaurant. So he got profit and he chose to get something even better. He tells me he is happy and that he is lucky his choices turned out to be positive and good.

NAICS: 238 Specialty Trade Contractors
Description: Motorcycle mechanic shop
Motorcycles have been a hobby for many years. I used to work on my own bikes on a weekly basis for fun and to gain some knowledge about my motorcycle. I feel its important to know your vehicle and its basic maintenance. I then started offering help to fellow friends and other riders when I felt I had gain enough smarts in the field of work. My goal was to help the motorcycle community by offering affordable services and friendly customer relations to help build a strong foundation for the business. Many motorcycle repair shops are overpriced or provide bad customer service. After hearing many sad stories about riders being scammed or robbed of their money for such simple services, I realized I could offer my knowledge and experience. I felt I could still learn more, so I got formal training which helped build confidence and expanded my abilities. I also wanted to be able to offer proof that I could do the job right, and offer the customer service needed to build that solid professional relationship.

3. I decided to get into this type of business because I have friends that they were doing this job already for few years. Before I started this journey, I did not know what to do with my life because I had very few options and one of them was these; if I study, it will cost me money but If I can make business it will generate money for me, so I chose the second one “make money” and so far this business is doing great (food supplier for retail store/ warehouse).
