NAICS: 561 Administrative and Support Services Description: Security Services |
| After getting out of the marines in 1983 I startd working in the security industry, I worked all levels of security from being a basic security officer to being the office manager at the last firm that I worked at. While in the field and in the office I saw many things happen to the security officers that I didnt agree with , like unfair wages, discriminaton of age and gender, lack of benefits and all in all that seemed to be affecting the moral of the officers in the field. From the years 2000-2003 I began seriously thinking about opening my own business and making changes to the industry, if only within my company. My intial goal was to be able to provide excellent client services while still offering a higher payrate to my employees as well as benefits. I do tell you in this industry it's tough getting a client to pay a higher wage, most of them want to go for the low bidder but by time I through with my sales pitch and explaining why I am charging a little higher I have gained the client. Now with this I have the client and can pay my employees a higher wage and get some of the top officers in the field. |

NAICS: 561 Administrative and Support Services Description: Provide carpet, tile, and grout for residential and business |
| I decided to get into this business when I was 20 years old. I was investigating different types of business to start. So I decided to start a carpet cleaning and janitorial service because it fit my personality and it is a profitable service. I enjoyed it when I first tried it out but it was a lot of work. My initial gal was to build a business and provide jobs for the community and to help people that needed their carpets or floors clean. |

NAICS: 448 Clothing and Clothing Accessories Stores Description: Independent Clothing Line |
| It all started by going into a store call Kings, its in montclair. I stepped in looking for a shirt i really wanted and they didn't have it. So I went home and I decided that I would make a designed similar to it. I went to the swap meet where they made the print and they put it on the shirt, but I bought like 10 so it could come out cheaper. I went to school the next day wearing my shirt everyone liked it asked where they could get one I sold the shirts $10 each and i made my money back by selling those nine shirts and I wanted to start making my own clothes, because my peers just liked the design. Many asked me to create more and thats when Undefined Clothing was born. |

NAICS: 713 Amusement, Gambling, and Recreation Industries Description: Fitness industry |
| The idea of a surf-inspired workout method came from having a passion for the sport and an athletic background. Our CEO, Mike Hartwick, enjoyed how his body looked and felt after surfing all summer long. He felt stronger and more powerful with a longer and leaner physique and his goal was to try and mimic that year round and in locations that didn't have a surf community. The other two founders (Bill Ninteau and Sarah Ponn) helped with the actual creation of the board and training method. |

NAICS: 531 Real Estate Description: Realtor, Real Estate Sales |
| I was working as a supervisor for Philippine Airlines at Los Angeles Internatiional Airport (LAX). Although I loved the customer service aspect and the daily excitement involved in international travel, it was taking a toll on me. I would drive to the airport during afternoon rush hour (at least it was mostly opposite traffic), work my six to seven hour shift, then go unwind with co-workers around one or two in the morning, then drive home and sleep all day. It was fun, but after a while, I felt like I was missing out on the rest of the world that was awake during the day and I came to feel enslaved by my hours and my commute. My best friend was already working in the industry and seemed to be much more in control of his time. Although it was a little scary leaving the security of a steady paycheck, the wear-and-tear on my car and myself overrode my sense of fear. The promise of more control over my time and potential income helped me to make the leap. Once I had made up my mind, I became less scared and more excited by my choice. Although as the market declined in recent years, I sometimes thought of going back to a nine-to-five job, I'm glad I haven't had to do that yet. |

| The love of beer. The love of beer and the opportunity to share really good beer with friends and family. We really wanted to share that and perhaps make a little money on the side, but the real goal is to provide a quality product which people genuinely enjoy. Everything else is secondary. |

NAICS: 722 Food Services and Drinking Places Description: Mexican Ice Cream Shop |
| The idea of this ice cream business came from back home in Michoacan. Delicious homemade recipes put the idea of business together. Having that there’s less opportunity in Michoacan bringing this business over to the U.S. was a straightforward aim. It started in El Monte through a family member, which was handed down. It has branched out throughout the years, with having four locations together the business came along better than expected. With locations in El Monte, South El Monte, city of Industry, and Baldwin Park has the business’s goal has been reached. A future goal is to keep the business going, passing down the business and skills through family generations. Keeping the business successful and thriving is a long term goal. To keep expanding is the plan, there are only four locations as of now but the goal is to get open business in a couple more locations. |

We migrated into this business from a like kind business we had been in for years and saw an opportunity to start our own business where we could make the changes we felt would provide the kind of service that was lacking in the businesses we were employed in.
