NAICS: 531 Real Estate
Description: Real Estate Office
I actually fell into this industry on accident, opened up the newspaper seen a now hiring sign for real estate agents and I went in applied took the exam to become a licensed agent and went from there. I’ll tell you this much it beats working in a warehouse and working thirteen, fourteen hours breaking your back for minimum wage, I’d rather be my own boss, and that’s what I am doing now, working whenever I want, and how I want to, but you also must be disciplined, because if you get lazy you will fall behind, and you don’t want to do that, especially in this industry and this market.  My initial goal is to be financially stable and independent. Always wanting to improve my quality of life and wellbeing, being comfortable, no need to be a millionaire, just be comfortable that’s all, having all my bills paid, roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food in my stomach, I don’t always need to eat at a five star restaurant or drive a Bentley, I don’t need all that, as long as I have my bills paid and money in the bank then I am fine, anyone else can have the glamor but I don’t need it, it would be nice don’t get me wrong, but I am fine without all that. I am in control of my destiny, I make my own path, you make what you want to make, you want to make a million bucks, go and make a million bucks, I can make a million bucks tomorrow if I wanted to no one is stopping me from doing that, that’s the beauty of it. Does it mean I love it, not necessarily, but will I grow to love it, yeah, down the road I will, just like everyone else, growing to love what they do.

NAICS: 621 Ambulatory Health Care Services
Description: In-Home Caregiving Services
I have always wanted to have my own business and be my own boss. My initial goal was to be able to work from home, have a more open schedule, and be able to be in charge of what I was going to do every day. I also have three young children, so owning my own business would give me the flexibility I would need to run a household while still contributing to the finances. But as I began to help families that needed help with their elderly loved ones, I saw how valuable the experience was. I was able to help them get through some scary times as well to offer help when I could. It turned out to be very fulfilling.

NAICS: 811 Repair and Maintenance
Description: Tire recycling shop and extras.
This business was already set aside for me by my father. It is a family business and my brother also works for us. My dad goes fishing most of the time now that he is semi- retired. I don’t think you ever retire completely when you have a business of your own. Passing it down to the next generation is usually the goal for the original owner in a family business. My dad was already a mechanic in Mexico. So when he came to the States, he did what he knew best, recycle and put on tires. This led to other things that mechanics do. Now that I have taken over the business with my brother, this is what I know. I have been doing it for so long, I wouldn’t think about doing anything else but opening up more tire shops. So real estate, I believe is my next step. More land for more tires.   Actually, there is another business that I like to do. I also own and train horses. I own real estate for my stables. I also house my horses and I rent them out for riding. This business came out of my heart as a goal. I save horses that are going to be put down or no one wants. This business is for the love of my horse. My initial goal here is to keep them alive. People are so quick to kill a horse that they don’t want. Ranchers just think of them as meat. These are my pets, and more than that, part of the family. The original goal with the tire shop helped me to get to my second but in my heart, first goal, owning my horses. Sharing my horses with children and having their faces light up when they see them is priceless. So my dad’s initial goal led me to mine.   The reason I do want to get into something else is very important at this time. For this specific report, I do want to make something known. If it is to help anyone in business that has done it legally, with hard work, blood, sweat and tears as I have. I am losing about 90% of my tire business to illegal corporations. These illegal corporations which I found out to be Chinese corporations are coming and taking the tires at no cost and shipping them to China and other parts of Asia illegally. I have had several meetings about this with the City Council and other facilities. Where I used to pick up tires for a profit, the corporations are taking them away for free when they know they are not supposed to. They are not telling the businesses why. I actually have investigated for myself and found this to be true. The tires are being dumped illegally without being recycled properly.   That being said my mission statement and goals have changed. My original statement was, “I want to lead my own way”. Now, my initial goal is to stay a float concerning competition for doing things the right and legal way. I personally see how it is affecting businesses and ripping them out by illegal activity. I want to lead so that others do the same. I believe that other businesses who go into business with illegal activity occurring should be reprimanded and accounted for. Just recently the law has changed, and people now will be fined a heavy penalty for these types of actions. It affects everyone. It is contagious. If one company gets away with it, then another company will do it too. I have seen it. So my new mission statement and goal is to be fair to our clients and the companies who we do business with. It is so important to do right. Doing right can be contagious, also. We see it in the businesses that are around us. We help each other out and to grow. It is important to connect and stay connected. We do not deal with nonsense along the way. Maybe that will be our next mission statement and goal.

NAICS: 111 Crop Production
Description: Almond and Walnut Huller
I am a 3rd generation of the family business so seeing this company succeed is one of my biggest priorities. I don’t want to destroy years and years of dedication and hard work. My main goal for my life is too make an income that I can live off of while being my own boss. A plus about being my own boss is that I have complete control over my work schedule except for hulling season. The reason why is because we are operating full swing meaning we don’t stop working till the product is finished. We are usually working 24/7 for about 3 months in a row so it’s like working retail during the holidays. Just a little hint you don’t have any time off. Once the product is done then the process starts all over again the next year.

I started this business after I was laid off from a valve manufacturer.  It initially started off as competition to the valve manufacturer, but with new customers requesting new products we designed and developed a full line of carpet cleaning equipment and tools.  The initial goal was to make a profit and take some of the valve manufacturer’s customers.

Description: Manufactur/Distribute awards to trophy shops
Well actually, I was rather raised into the business because this was a family business. My father bought the company in 1984, and I just learned and took it after my father. So I guess you can say I decided to get into this business because my father owned it. As far as my initial goal is, I basically just wanted to learn the business and continue the success.
