NAICS: 448 Clothing and Clothing Accessories Stores
Description: Vintage inspired clothing for women (limited pieces)
Originally I was going to school and in the middles of my microbiology degree. I wanted to do something that will help people, give back. I was also working 32 hour shifts. The company I worked for was bought out by another company and the new company wanted me to work a full 40 hours but I couldn’t because of school so they let me go. That was my income meaning money for school so I had to drop out. I am the type of person who likes to keep on my toes, so I began to think of something I can do right away other than just sit home and waste my time. So I thought another passion of mine is fashion. I began designing and sewing, and that was pretty much it. In a way I just fell into to it. But I am also continuing to help people just in a different way. My goal in this business is to help women fall in love with themselves no matter what shape or size. I design for all types of women and use all types of models to encourage women to realize that there is no one size that is more beautiful than the other, we should love ourselves for who we are as individuals not according to the number on the tag of our dress. So my main goal is to help women love themselves and to hopefully help in changing societies views on what beauty really is because as of right now they may not be the best and might be harming women more then helping them.

NAICS: 112 Animal Production
Description: Horse Boarding and Training Facility
Since I was a little girl, and would ride my pony down to the local boarding stable, I've dreamed of owning a similar business. It's been a life-long goal to have a beautiful stable where people could enjoy their horses, and where little girls could come to learn about horses... Just as I did when I was a child.  I've wanted to own this particular property since I first saw it when I was about 12 years old. So in one sense it's a dream come true, and in another it's been a nightmare.   I think the ranch is a great place to raise my son, and a safe haven for my elderly mother (and probably a good real estate investment in the long run) but it caused huge problems in my marriage. Living in or through the formation and maintenance of a small business is very, very stressful on relationships- especially a business where you actually live amidst your customers. Definitely not recommended, 'living above the store' is not for the faint of heart or the unevenly yoked.  Entrepreneurs tend to have strong personalities, and may steamroller loved ones in their single-minded pursuit of a dream they see clearly that may appear vague to others.

Since there were not many Taiwanese restaurant, I wanted to start a Taiwanese restaurant. Also, starting a Taiwanese restaurant can let more people know about Taiwanese food. My initial goal was to introduce Taiwanese food to other people.  Before starting this business, I was doing the bakery business and I already have five stores. Since I was a baker and I always to start my own business, I start with the bakery business. Recently, I started to think I can start a business that can combine the bakery and restaurant. Three years ago, I started this business and it worked very well.

NAICS: 812 Personal and Laundry Services
Description: Pet sitting
My boys were my inspiration. I have two dogs, hence the name, that I just love to death. They have a lot of health problems that require me to be near them, or at least be supervised for a large portion of the day. Whenever I went to work, I always worried about them and it would just ruin my day, it would keep me from getting things done. From there, I started thinking about how other pet parents feel, and how their lives are affected by animals with special needs and requirements. Then my mind wandered into what they did to ease their minds. Did they stay home? Did they hire someone to watch their animals for them? And that's when I got the idea. Why not start a pet sitting business? Not only would I be able to be with my boys, but I'd also be helping others. It wasn't just the idea of taking care of their animals, anyone can do that. It was the idea that someone with experience and real hands on knowledge would be taking care of them.

NAICS: 447 Gasoline Stations
Description: Gas Station & Food Mart
Well, I decided to open this business because I already own another one, the same type of business. I saw how successful the first one was. So I knew it was a good time to open a new business. Both are pretty much the same, but I work with a different company (gasoline supplier). The first location is a franchise; the second one wasn't a franchise until the last 2 years.

NAICS: 451 Sporting Goods, Hobby, Book, and Music Stores
Description: Sells Fishing lures and jigs
To start we didn’t have any money and definitely fell into the business. We began by cutting creepy crawlers to make fishing lures. We were very successful with our lures and caught a lot of fish. At which point fell into the market. My partner and I continued to make them to go fishing and the owner of Santa Ana river lakes told us to package them and we did. So it was an easy way to make money and we decided to really dive into the business and keep improving our products.

NAICS: 611 Educational Services
Description: Retail, Medium to High Price Guitars
After retiring as a Chemist, sitting at home and watching cartoons was beginning to sound unappealing. So I figured opening up a little store selling guitars would give me something to do with my day. When I opened the store I had $100,000 worth of guitars and only three books on guitars. Once the store opened I started off with giving guitar lessons. When I realized how well the store was doing and how the demand for other instruments was increasing I figured why not be a complete music store and sell other types of instruments other than guitars, so I branched out and my once guitar shop became a complete music store. Now I sell guitars (electric and acoustic), amps, violins, harmonicas, hand drums, clothing, and other miscellaneous music products.

Well initially I was working for someone else and I learned a lot from them, I saw potential in myself to join a growing industry and at the time there was no insurance companies catering specifically and marketing to Hispanic people so I decided to do just that and also my mother encouraged me to do it. My goal initially was to have financial stability and to make enough money to spend more time at home.
