NAICS: 332 Fabricated Metal Product Manufacturing
Description: Custom iron work
I decided to get into this type of business because it was something that I did growing up and I did it well so I just kept at it. My initial goal was to do this business with my older brother but of course with a family business comes family problems. We both went our own ways and I now operate the business by myself and he went back to Mexico to continue his own. In the end I just want to do what I must do to survive in this tough economy.

NAICS: 811 Repair and Maintenance
Description: Pool and Spa maintenance
When I was younger I lived next door to a man that owned his own pool company. At the time I was working a full-time factory job to support my family. He offered me a part-time weekend job cleaning pools. After a while I decided that I could do it on my own so I started a job out of it and got a couple of my own pools. Little by little I started getting more pools and  needed help so I had my friend help me clean pools and my wife ran the office from home. Since 1993 I have ran my own business and most of it was ran out of my own house.

I decided to get into this type of business because for one, I like to fix things, but the main reason I got into this field of business is that immediate satisfaction of knowing it was done right.  My initial goals for the business were to have a long term job, to pay my bills, and to make my family happy.

NAICS: 722 Food Services and Drinking Places
Description: Specialty Asian Food
I used to work for the State Board of Equalization in Riverside doing Audits. Being there, I was able to take a look at almost every single business in the area and how much these businesses were yielding. I noticed that some Asian markets were making up to a couple hundred thousand per year and these markets were not big. I also noticed that there was a market untouched by entrepreneurs, especially with the demographic of the UCR; and that market was the specialty Asian food market. With the amount of overseas Asian population that currently attended the school, more than half want to be able to enjoy that taste of home and get those small snacks, drinks and foods that they would normally get back home. In addition, the closest Asian food markets are 20+ miles away and most of the students have no ways of getting to those markets, so I decided it was a good move to open right next to the universities extension center were a great majority of foreign students passed through.
